Covering the dining scene in and around the OC
More than three dozen Irvine restaurants are participating with special lunch or dinner menus at prices below what they’d normally charge.
Such was the case with Slater’s 50/50 in Lake Forest, which we visited during Restaurant Week.
Their special menu is $15 per person, and includes an appetizer, entree, and dessert as well as a beverage.
For our appetizer we selected the Chicken Fried Bacon with Red Eye Aioli: Three strips of house breaded and deep fried thick cut bacon. To say it was delicious is an understatement, and the aioli was perfect for dipping.
For entrees, we chose Coffee Rub Burger (BBQ and coffee rub beef patty with bacon cheddar cheese on top of grilled kale and topped with fresh made corn hush puppies)., and Bison & Bacon Meatloaf (2/3 lb. of ground buffalo and ground bacon mix with a blend of spices and grated cheese baked with a pistachio dijon crust, served bone in
with marrow butter and a side of sautéed mushrooms and bacon mac ‘n’ cheese).
Needless to say, the entrée portions are huge, and so good! The meatloaf was perfectly cooked, and the burger was so big that we cut it in half and it was still a mass of goodness on the palate.
